Welcome to ADDDitive!
Hi there,
This week: IT waste, building from scratch, Las Vegas ConTech event, and $390m for AI in AEC
Over the last year I’ve had a front-row seat to three big shifts in our world:
1.Architecture practices quietly bleeding cash on IT and software they don’t really understand.
2.ConTech founders struggling to get in front of the right people, even with great products.
Talent moving faster than firms can keep up – especially as AI-driven tools like Consigli get acquired for hundreds of millions.
In this issue I’m sharing four angles on that same story:
-Why your problem isn’t “software costs” – it’s non-strategic IT.
-What I learned building a house and a business at the same time.
-Why AEC INNOVATE in Las Vegas is the room ConTech teams need to be in.
-How the $390m AECOM – Consigli deal is a signal for anyone hiring – or moving into – AEC tech.
Let’s get into it. 👇.

If something here hits home, just reply, I read every message!

1. Architects, You Don’t Have a Software Costs Problem, You Have an IT Support Costs Problem.
Over the last year, I’ve assessed the tech stacks of practices of every size.
And almost every conversation starts the same way:
“We think we have a software cost problem.”
Sometimes that’s true but almost always there’s a bigger issue hiding underneath:
Your IT Support isn’t strategic.
When IT is reactive instead of proactive, practices quietly bleed money through:
-Endless firefighting instead of improvement
-Productivity lost to troubleshooting
-Overspending on licences, servers, storage
-Paying for systems no one uses (or understands)
-Support contracts that keep old workflows alive
The cost isn’t just “IT spend.” It’s Profit Margin. Productivity. Team Morale.
Here are the patterns I see again and again:
1️⃣ Overspending on Software + IT Stack
Duplicate tools and hidden subscriptions draining budget.
2️⃣ No Visibility of What You Have or Why
No clear inventory. No purpose. No ownership.
3️⃣ AI Is Moving Faster Than Procurement
Costs and capability shifts are totally out of sync.
4️⃣ Platforms Are Replacing Applications
But budgets still look like it’s 2019.
5️⃣ No Internal Capacity to Rationalise
Teams are too busy delivering to optimise.
When no one owns mapping, modernising, and right-sizing tech…
the invoice does the talking.
So let me ask…

2. 2 years ago I bought a house, then quit my job in the same month. What’s happened since has been unbelievable.
Two years ago, I did two slightly mad things at once:
🛠 Bought a house falling apart
🚀 Quit my job to start something new
Since then…
The House
Weekends. Late nights. YouTube tutorials.
I learned bricklaying, wiring, flooring, and that great results come from great prep.
This weekend, we finished. Fully transformed. A home we’re proud of.
The Business
I founded ADDD.
Built an AEC software marketplace.
Reached 500+ ConTech founders.
Cofounded AEC Tech Jobs.
Helped start ups reach architects and sharpen their positioning.
Same rule: Preparation = everything.
I’ve been lucky to build this with brilliant people who’ve supported, challenged, and cheered me on. You know who you are, thank you! See a full list on the LinkedIn post here:
2026 feels like a tipping point.
AI and new tools are reshaping everything about how we design and deliver buildings, and I’m all in.
The lesson:
No one builds alone. Not a house. Not a business. Not an industry.
Here’s to what comes next!
3. If You Sell ConTech, This Is The Room You Need to Be In
If you build tech for architects or engineers, the biggest challenge isn’t the product, it’s getting in front of the people who can actually buy it. That’s why AEC INNOVATE (June 16–18, 2026, Aria Las Vegas) matters.
It brings together 500+ Principals, CTOs, Innovation Leads, Digital Directors, and decision-makers who come specifically to evaluate new AI and workflow tools.
This isn’t a trade show. It’s direct access to your ICP.
Why Exhibit?
You get two days of high-intent conversations with senior AEC leaders who are actively:
✓ Looking for new tools
✓ Making budget decisions
✓ Comparing solutions side-by-side
✓ Planning their 2026 tech roadmaps
If you want pipeline, product feedback, visibility, and deal acceleration, I think that this is it.
Your Exhibitor Package Includes
• Exhibit space
• 2 passes
• Your logo on the website + main stage
• A custom promo link (below) giving your prospects $200 off
Why It Works
AEC INNOVATE is built to connect ConTech builders with the exact end users shaping adoption across the industry - the people who influence real buying decisions.

4. Did you know CONSIGLI was just acquired for US $390 million?
What you don’t know is they’re hiring, and we’ve got all of their top roles listed on AEC Tech Jobs 👇
AECOM has snapped up Consigli in a deal worth ~$390m, according to reports.
Now Consigli isn’t just any startup. Their AI-driven “Autonomous Engineer” platform rethinks space analysis, MEP loadings, Level 3 modelling, automated documentation and more, promising dramatic reductions in engineering time. If AECOM views that tech and talent as a strategic differentiator, then imagine what that signals for the broader AEC + ConTech job market.
🔥 Below you’ll find the top 20 live ConTech roles - including Consigli, and many more at leading AEC, engineering and ConTech firms.
1. CONSIGLI
2. Monograph
3. Autodesk
5. Acelab
6. Gendo
